Police-recorded crime in Belgium, commune by commune

Crimistat maps the offences recorded by the Belgian police in all 564 communes and 175 police zones, for 2000 and every year from 2015 to 2025. The figures come from the federal police crime statistics; population and income come from Statbel. The site is independent and has no connection with the police or any government body.

In 2025 the police recorded 903,078 offences in Belgium, about 7,600 per 100,000 residents. The national total peaked in 2020 at 997,540, largely because breaches of the COVID-19 rules were counted as offences.

How to read the map

• Rates are per 100,000 residents. Communes with fewer than 1,000 residents get no rate: a handful of cases would swing it wildly.
• These are offences recorded by the police, not all offences committed. Drug, weapon and alcohol offences mostly come to light through police checks, so they reflect how actively a zone enforces as much as how common they are (marked ◆).
• City centres, the coast, the airport commune and large shopping or leisure sites draw many people who do not live there, which pushes their rate per resident up (marked ⚑).
• One category is shown at a time, and there is no composite “safety score”.
